That Mothers Might Live is a 1938 American short drama film directed by Fred Zinnemann. The short is a brief account of Hungarian physician Ignaz Semmelweis and his discovery of the need for cleanliness in 19th-century maternity wards, thereby significantly decreasing maternal mortality, and of his struggle to gain acceptance of his idea. Although Semmelweis ultimately failed in his lifetime, later scientific luminaries advanced his work in spirit like microbiologist Louis Pasteur, who provided a scientific theoretical explanation of Semmelweis' observations by helping develop the germ theory of disease and the British surgeon, Dr. Joseph Lister who revolutionized medicine putting Pasteur's research to practical use. In 1939, at the 11th Academy Awards, the film won an Oscar for Best Short Subject (One-Reel).

Μετά το ξέσπασμα της εξαπλωνόμενης επιδημίας των ζόμπι, δύο αστυνομικοί των ειδικών δυνάμεων, ένας δημοσιογράφος και η κοπέλα του, η οποία είναι τηλεοπτική παραγωγός, βρίσκουν καταφύγιο σε ένα εγκαταλελειμμένο εμπορικό κέντρο. Τα ζόμπι δεν αργούν να εμφανιστούν πολιορκώντας το εμπορικό κέντρο και η μάχη για την επιβίωση ξεκινά.

A journalist lives his smooth citizen life, married to a woman from respected family. But, conflicts with manager at work are becoming more often, his marriage is unstable and the outer manifestation of all this is a strange skin disease. Doctors recommend resting in nature and self-examination. In the mountains, in a lonely house near the lake, he meets a woman, also unadjusted and lonely. The consequences of this encounter are beneficial. Capable to love again, he gets his moral strength, and disease retreats. He breaks off his contacts with his wife's family and with "petit bourgeois" of his former life, confronts his boss and wins, realizing that this is only a first victory which has straightened him up.

A young kid infects a girl and then the two start attacking, biting and infecting everybody else.

Για τον νεαρό Ζάκ, η ζωή στο αγρόκτημα της μητέρας του είναι καθημερινά πολύ συμβατική. Ο πατριός του είναι θρησκόληπτος και πολύ αυστηρός με εκείνον και την μητέρα του. Όταν ανακαλύπτει οτι η γυναίκα του κάνει κάποια, είναι σίγουρος πως ο θεός θα την τιμωρίσει. Όμως η τιμωρία έρχεται απο άλλον κόσμο. Μιά νύχτα ο Ζακ βλέπει έναν γαλάζιο μετεωρίτη να πέφτει στο αγρόκτημα. Εν το μεταξύ παράξενα φαινόμενα γίνονται στο στην φάρμα. Τα μήλα γίνονται μεγάλα και πανέμορφα, αλλά μέσα τους κρύβουν κάτι τρομαχτικό. Η οικογένεια αρχίζει να βγάζει αλλόκοτα εξανθήματα στο πρόσωπό, και ο πατριός του κατηγορεί την γυναίκα για τις αμαρτίες της. Μόνο ο Ζάκ καταλαβαίνει καλύτερα και προσπαθεί να πείσει τους άλλους κατοίκους της πόλης για την συμφορά.

While working in a greenhouse, a man receives an insect bite after touching an exotic plant. Immediately, he falls ill and is taken to an emergency room where the doctors diagnose him as suffering from an unknown bacteria, and a strange parasite which emerges from his mouth as a large slimy wormlike creature. Soon, there are more cases of bacterial infection, but the more immediate problem for the hospital is the wormlike creature which after accidental exposure to a genetic growth stimulant grows to monstrous proportions and starts a reign of terror and bloodshed in the hospitals abandoned wing.

And to top things off, her husband who is on a camping trip with their two children is sick but did not show any symptoms until they were isolated from the rest of the world. Can she get to them in time?

Καμία ένδειξη θεραπείας και αποτέλεσµα: µέσα σε 28 ηµέρες έχει εξαπλωθεί σε ολόκληρη τη Βρετανία µετατρέποντάς τη σε έρηµο τοπίο. Μια οµάδα επιζώντων προσπαθεί να επιβιώσει αγνοώντας ότι οι επιθέσεις των µολυσµένων ατόµων από τον ιό δεν είναι το µόνο πρόβληµα που θα έχουν να αντιµετωπίσουν.
