年近60的失意作家馬歇，流浪到法國的海港「勒哈佛」，在碼頭為旅客擦皮鞋維生，藉以忘卻自己的文學大夢。然而他的妻子病重住院，快樂的生活出現轉折。此時家中卻又闖入不速之客，一個想要偷渡到倫敦尋母的非裔男孩。 馬歇雖自顧不暇，卻決定打破社會冷漠，伸出援手，他的善心帶動了左鄰右舍，一同給予男孩最大的祝福。究竟他能不能渡過重重難關，用單純的善意溫暖冰冷的海洋呢？
