由 唐曼奇尼編劇與指導，自從 2013 年的《鬼娃魔咒》至今，相隔將近四年時間，第七部續集《鬼娃儀式》終於問世。這次再度由上一集女主角 妮卡（菲歐娜杜瑞夫 飾）擔綱重任，被送進精神病院以後的她，本來正乖乖接受治療，直到醫院拿出一樣新的診療工具，恰吉！接著連串的死亡事件在醫院陸續發生，才讓妮卡意識到自己根本沒有發瘋。

本片的氛圍重點要比過去的系列作，更具有幽默感。劇情呈現上，沒有以往由受害兒童藏匿娃娃的概念，因此並沒有在標題上加上Child's Play（指原文標題）。《鬼娃新娘》所延續鬼娃系列的特色為連續殺人，但劇情並不全然與前集連結。本作也奠定了「恰吉」的新造型，布滿傷疤、縫線，殘破不全的臉部，恐怖指數絕對超越系列前作。
劇情描述一位殺人犯－雷，在與警方的槍戰中，躲進了一間玩具店，而負傷瀕死的雷施了咒術讓自己的靈魂附生於 "Good-Guy dolls 好人娃娃"身上。之後，它被凱倫買了去當作安迪的生日禮物稱為恰吉，沒想到，卻是惡夢的開始。
故事時間訂於前作《異靈七殺》八年後。安迪巴克利，當年的小男孩已經長大成人，於軍校就讀。玩具公司老闆決定重新生產"好人娃娃"，他認為安迪的鬼娃案件已被遺忘，工廠回收舊塑膠材料重新生產"好人娃娃"玩偶，包括鬼娃的殘餘塑膠，造成鬼娃再生。
