Madre Gothel, però, una notte decide di rapire la bambina, dopo aver scoperto che i suoi capelli hanno lo stesso potere del fiore, ma verifica anche che al minimo taglio i capelli perdono quel potere. Per diciotto anni Rapunzel, così si chiama la principessa, rimane rinchiusa in una torre da Madre Gothel, che però si mostra come un'adorabile mamma alla ragazza. Un furfante di nome Flynn Rider decide di nascondersi nella torre.
