“Gyvenimas yra gražus” yra kaip du filmai: pirmame pasakojama jauno žydo Guido (Roberto Benigni) istorija. Guido, kaimo prasčiokas, atvyksta į miestelį dirbti pas savo dėdę viešbutyje. Eina 1939-ieji, fašizmas Italijoje vis labiau stiprėja ir pasirodo pirmosios antisemitizmo apraiškos.
