A spacecraft lands on Europa, Jupiter’s icy moon, in temperatures of minus 260 degrees and searing radiation. Its mission: to penetrate the surface and send a probe into a watery realm beneath the ice. Meet Bill Stone, a preeminent underwater cave explorer and inventor who is developing robots to carry out that mission one day. Now, he and his team hope to test an autonomous underwater vehicle called Endurance in Antarctica’s icy waters. As we watch Endurance plunge into the depths, CGI animation helps us envision how its descendant would fare on a real mission to Europa. We see it hurtle across the solar system, finally dropping slowly into Europa’s liquid realm, where we follow it through its routines. Getting a robot through the ice and into the oceans of Europa will be an order of magnitude more difficult than anything Stone’s team has done so far.

Μια επικείμενη σύγκρουση με τον Δία απειλεί τη Γη. Καθώς οι άνθρωποι αναζητούν νέο σπίτι, μια ομάδα από γενναίους διασώστες προσπαθεί να σώσει ό,τι απέμεινε στον πλανήτη.

Την ημέρα που γεννήθηκε, τα αστέρια έδειχναν ότι προορίζεται για μεγάλα πράγματα. Ενήλικη πλέον, η Τζούπιτερ ονειρεύεται μεν τα αστέρια, ξυπνάει δε στην πεζή πραγματικότητα μιας καθαρίστριας σπιτιών με ένα σερί άτυχων περιστατικών. Μόνο όταν ο Κέιν, ένας γενετικά τροποποιημένος πρώην στρατιωτικός κυνηγός, φτάνει στη Γη για να την εντοπίσει, αρχίζει να αντιλαμβάνεται τι της επιφυλάσσει η μοίρα. Η γενετική της υπογραφή την έχει χαρακτηρίσει ως την κληρονόμο μιας σπουδαίας κληρονομιάς που μπορεί να αλλάξει την ισορροπία στο σύμπαν.

Μετά την ανακάλυψη στη Σελήνη ενός μυστήριου, μαύρου μονόλιθου, που ίσως κρύβει πολλές απαντήσεις γύρω από την καταγωγή της ανθρωπότητας, ξεκινά ένα ταξίδι αναζήτησης προς το άγνωστο, ένα διαστημικό ταξίδι στον πλανήτη Δία. Αρχηγός της ομάδας, που συγκροτείται, είναι ο Ντέιβ, καθοδηγούμενος από έναν ηλεκτρονικό υπολογιστή τεχνητής νοημοσύνης, τον ΧΑΛ. Όμως ο ΧΑΛ, που ρυθμίζει τις λειτουργίες του σκάφους, θα παρουσιάσει ξαφνικά παράξενες διαταραχές και θα στραφεί ενάντια στους ίδιους τους κοσμοναύτες.
