本作で阿部が演じる主人公・小川市郎（おがわ・いちろう）は、ひょんなことから1986年から2024年の現代へタイムスリップしてしまう“昭和のおじさん”。

市郎がタイムスリップした令和で出会うシングルマザー・犬島渚（いぬしま・なぎさ）を演じるのは仲里依紗。時空を超えて出会った市郎と渚がどのような関係性を築いていくのかも大きな見どころのひとつだ。

さらに、市郎と同じ1986年に生き、とあるアイドルに心酔するあまり、その身なり言動すべてを完コピする男“ムッチ先輩”こと秋津睦実（あきつ・むつみ）を演じるのは磯村勇斗。

市郎と逆で、2024年から1986年に息子と共にタイムスリップする社会学者の向坂サカエ（さきさか・さかえ）を吉田羊が演じる。

そして、市郎の一人娘・小川純子（おがわ・じゅんこ）を河合優実、令和の社会学者・向坂サカエの息子であり、サカエと共に2024年から1986年にタイムスリップする向坂キヨシ（さきさか・きよし）を坂元愛登が演じる。

巨大な組織力と機械怪物で構成され、首領のアイアンクロー（鉄の爪）に率いられる犯罪シンジケートクライムの暗躍に際し、国際科学特捜隊日本支部長官の鯨井大助（ジョーカー）に招集された桜井五郎・東竜・カレン水木・大地文太の4人は、核・電気・磁力・重力のエネルギーを持つサイボーグ戦士ジャッカーとして生まれ変わり、トランプのコードネームを持つジャッカー電撃隊となる。ジャッカーはクライムの陰惨な組織犯罪を捜査して壊滅を目指すが、宇宙的科学力にスケールが拡大していくその攻勢に苦戦を強いられる。そんな中、行動隊長の番場壮吉（ビッグワン）が加わり、5人になったジャッカーは、クライムと雌雄を決するべく戦いを繰り広げていく。
