Schauplatz des Films ist Budapest im Herbst 1944. Die mit den Nazis kooperierende Partei der Pfeilkreuzler ist an der Macht. Ein Mann und eine Frau, die sich bisher nicht kannten, beide verheiratet, müssen untertauchen, durch Zufall versteckt in einem einzigen Zimmer. Kata, die Frau, stammt aus einer bürgerlichen Familie. Janos ist Mitglied der kommunistischen Partei. Janos ist von Anfang an abweisend, zugeknöpft und voller Misstrauen gegenüber der Frau aus der Bourgeoisie. Während man jedes ihrer Gefühle vom Gesicht ablesen kann, sie ihr Herz auf der Zunge trägt und auf Verständnis und Mitgefühl hofft, demütigt er sie, missversteht sie mit Absicht und zwingt sie so, jedes Wort, jede Geste zu kontrollieren, jede Gefühlsregung zu verbergen. Als Kata schließlich an Einsamkeit und Misstrauen zu zerbrechen droht, findet sie einen Zettel auf ihrem Kopfkissen mit Janos’ Eingeständnis, dass auch er einsam ist.

Divided into four sections, "Song" is inspired by the Siberian and Finno-Ugric legends about Creation, in which the world begins with characters who are only half-human, one being half-bird, the other half-bear. The narrator delves into the origins of Hungarian culture, the Iranian and Turkish influences that impacted the society, and finally the story of Stephen, the emperor who brought Christianity to the country and shifted the capital west in an attempt to link with Europe.

This film has no plot.

After the Turkish empire's fall a small Greek diaspora fertilized the Hungarian capital city of Pest in the 19th century. This Greeks are involved all of the major investments of that time. For example Chain Bridge could not had been built without a Greek trader family, the Sina's money.
