When the swindler La Spada and his accomplice José come out of jail in Madrid, they decide to pull a really great swindle: nothing less than to discover and sell a third picture of the famous Goya's Maya. They engage the renowed Scorcelletti who can imitate any picture and who lives in Rome. Afterwards, with the help of the beautiful Eva, they convince the celebrated art critic Francisco Montiel of the existance of a third Maya and let him find the picture. When the swindlers are on the point of selling the faked maya to an American millionaire, Scorcelli comes back from Rome to sell one of his six other maya pictures.

Gönül (Gönül Yazar) ünlü ve çok zengin bir şarkıcıdır. Onun zenginliğinde görü olan patronu Zekeriya, parasına el koymak için bir plan yapar. O sırada hapisten çıkmış olan ve işi olmayan Mehmet’le (Cüneyt Arkın) görüşür ve onu ikna eder. Plana göre Mehmet, Gönül’ü kendisine aşık edecek ve bir şekilde paralarını çalacaktır. Mehmet istemeyerek de olsa, Rıza Dayı’nın torununu ameliyat ettirebilmek için bu işi bu kabul eder. Kendisini Ertuğrul adıyla tanıtıp Gönül’ün kaldığı otele yerleşir. Yakışıklılığı ile Gönül’ü etkilemeyi başarır. İlişkileri bir aşka dönüştüğü sırada Gönül, Ertuğrul’un gerçek kimliğini öğrenir. Onu denemek için bir oyuna başvurur. Tüm parasını bir iş için ona vermek ister. Mehmet bu teklifi kabul etmez ve Gönül’e doğruyu anlatır.
