Armand e Albert convivono da anni: insieme gestiscono il locale notturno "The Birdcage" e insieme hanno cresciuto Val, il figlio di Armand. Quando Val annuncia di voler sposare la figlia di un senatore ultraconservatore, i due devono prepararsi all'incontro con i consuoceri, ai quali non si può certo rivelare la natura della loro famiglia. In Grecia il partito neo-nazista Golden Dawn (Alba Dorata) diventa il terzo partito più grande del Paese in seguito alle elezioni e a Malmö l’attivista Showan Shattak e i suoi affiliati sono attaccati da un gruppo di neonazisti armati di coltelli. Showan finisce in coma. Il film racconta come oggi la società civile e i gruppi della sinistra lottino quotidianamente contro ogni possibile deriva neofascista del vecchio continente.
