故事舞台設定在戰後，失去一切的日本，而哥吉拉的出現，卻是讓已經處於悲慘狀態的日本，給予更為慘痛的致命打擊，在特報影片中也呈現出日本被哥吉拉無情摧毀的一面。
這個激勵人心的故事，取材自二戰時發生的真實事件。為了替海洋另一端的盟軍帶來增援與補給，艦長 Ernest Krause 必須帶領由 37 艘船艦組成的盟軍艦隊橫渡大西洋，在險象環生的任務中尋求一線生機。
阿拉伯半島伊維亞共和國發生政變，恐怖組織連同叛軍攻入首都，當地華僑面臨危險，海軍戰艦接到上級命令，中國人民解放軍海軍的特種作戰團「蛟龍突擊隊」8人小組奉命執行撤僑任務，突擊隊兵分兩路進行救援，但不幸遭到伏擊，人員傷亡。同時，掌握核戰原材料的恐怖分子首領還在密謀不法行動。為拯救同胞，也為了保護核原料不落入恐怖組織之手，蛟龍突擊隊決定留下繼續展開更加艱險的營救行動。
1933年，日本與歐美的對立加劇，日本帝國海軍高層對於建造巨大戰艦——大和號寄予相當大的期待，但海軍少將山本五十六（館廣 飾）卻希望能暫緩這項計畫。即使山本提出了替代方案，高層仍支持建造向世界炫耀的大和號。山本為了計算出建造大和號需花費的龐大經費，向外界公布計畫所隱藏的不合理條件，請來天才數學家櫂直（菅田將暉 飾）協助計算。櫂直活用與生俱來的數學能力和氣度，開始試算大和號所需的經費，但帝國海軍的力量向他侵襲而來……

After a quayside mix-up with the Italian family of his fiancée, Able Seaman Knocker White finds himself literally left holding the baby. Unable to return it before his ship sails he enlists the help of best mate Puncher Roberts to smuggle the child aboard. But babies are surprisingly demanding and gradually the whole crew is drawn into helping keep it fed and washed - and undiscovered. Even so, the officers above deck start to puzzle over the increasingly strange happenings on board.
