아녜스 바르다는 마치 일기를 쓰듯이 정겹고 주관적인 형식으로 영화를 구성해 간다. 버려진 것들을 주워서 살아갈 수밖에 없는 가난한 촌부나 도시의 홈리스 등에 대한 묘사가 프랑스 사회 내부의 모순들을 간접적으로 드러내고 있다면, 재활용 미술가나 환경운동가와 같은 사람들의 목소리를 통해서는 현대 사회의 과도하고 무분별한 소비성이 비판되기도 한다.
