Stakkels Nancy dør under en rutineoperation. Hendes veninde Susan er læge og synes dødsfaldet er mistænkeligt og begynder at grave i sagen. Det synes hverken hendes chef eller lægekæreste godt om, men Susan har ben i næsen og giver ikke sådan lige op. Sporene fører til det mytiske Jefferson Institute, der muligvis har gang i en større omgang medicinfusk.
Filmen handler om den illegale indvandrer Okwe. Han er oprindeligt uddannet læge og fra Nigeria, men i London arbejder han både som taxachauffør og som receptionist på et hotel. Her møder han den tyrkiske Senay, der arbejder som stuepige. Hun venter på at få behandlet sin ansøgning om asyl og må egentlig ikke arbejde, men et eller andet skal hun leve af. En dag får Okwe sig en særdeles ubehagelig oplevelse: Han opdager, at et af hotellets toiletter er tilstoppet - af et menneskehjerte. Han kan ikke kontakte politiet, da det vil afsløre, at han opholder sig illegalt i landet. Men hans nyerhvervede viden om Londons kriminelle underverden og handlen med organer er farlig. Hurtigt er han og også Senay involveret i en sag, der bringer deres liv i fare.
