1940년 5월, 독일의 무차별적인 공격으로 유럽의 국가들은 독일에 하나 둘 점령당해가고 영국은 프랑스의 지원 요청을 받아들여 자군의 병력을 동원해 프랑스를 지원한다. 그러나 프랑스가 함락되자 독일은 영국을 다음 목표로 정한다. 독일은 영국침공 작전의 준비단계로 제공권을 장악하기 위한 대규모 항공전을 개시한다. 그러나 영국군의 폭격기는 650대, 독일군의 항공기는 2,500대로 수적으로 크게 열세이다. 1940년 6월, 영국 공군 사령부는 적기를 아군의 요지로 끌어들여 공격하려는 작전을 세우고 사기가 충만한 독일군은 완벽한 공격태세를 갖추고 공격을 기다린다. 1940년 9월, 대대적인 공격이 시작되고 독일의 목표가 남부 해안의 군사시설에 집중되어 영국에게 크게 불리해질 때 갑자기 런던에 폭탄이 떨어지게 된다. 영국은 런던 폭격에 대한 보복으로 베를린에 공습을 가하자 히틀러는 공습목표를 민간거주지역으로 바꾸는 명령을 내리는데...

Canadian Mountie Steve Wagner captures a German Luftwaffe officer on a spy mission, who later escapes from the prison camp. To catch the spy ring, the Mounties employ a ruse so that the spies, believing Steve to be sympathetic, enlist him in their plans.

A young pilot, fresh out of training, is called to join a Flight while they wait for the call to scramble. Throughout a single day, he witnesses the skies of southern England filled with deadly dog fights, and after every exhausting battle the men return to their dispersal hut, only to find another of their number missing. Unwilling to surrender, the pilot and his comrades unite to take to the skies once more, determined to defend not only the airfield, but their entire country.
