Et barnløst par bor på en afsidesliggende gård i det klipperige Island. En aften gør de et overraskende fund i deres fårehold. Mystikken er til at tage at føle på, men afløses hurtigt af lykke mellem det hårdtarbejdende par. Men snart mærker de konsekvenserne af at gå mod naturens vilje.
Fåret Frode keder sig lidt på bondegården, så han pønser på at tage en fridag. Desværre resulterer hans plan i, at en løbsk campingvogn fører bondemanden langt, langt ind i den store by. Efter et slag i hovedet har bonden også mistet hukommelsen, så Frode har ikke andet valg end at vove sig væk fra gården og ind til byen for at redde bondemanden hjem igen.
Den elskelige uldklump Frode Får bliver kastet ud i et hylesjovt, intergalaktisk eventyr da LU-LA, en gæst fra det ydre rum, nødlander nær gården. Det lille, nuttede rumvæsen vil gerne hjem igen. Hele fåreflokken falder for LU-LAs magiske evner, drilagtighed og galaktisk store bøvser, så Frode Får beslutter sig for at hjælpe sin nye ven i nøden. De ved imidlertid ikke, at Agent Rød er på sporet af dem. Hun jagter rumvæsner for at bevise, at der findes liv i rummet. Before shearing, done with electric devices and hand shears, lambs are separated from the flock. The lambs are not yet shorn but dipped in a disinfectant, parasiticidal liquid prescribed by law. For the auction, held in autumn, the sheep for sale are loaded on special trucks and transported from the pasture to the public sale.
During the ewing-period the shepherd has to take especially care of the flocks. He has to assist the ewes in ewing, to control the feeding of the lambs, and to switch orphaned and abandoned lambs to ewes that have lost their lamb. This is still done by the traditional method of skinning: The dead lamb's skin is slipped on the abandoned lamb to deceive the mother ewe. At this time the shepherd must also warm newly-born, supercooled lambs inside the house and feed them artificially.
