Hercule Poirot é um antigo polícia belga que se instala na cidade de Londres depois da guerra. Rapidamente se torna num impressionante e infalível detective privado, reconhecido pela alta sociedade inglesa como uma importante figura contra o crime. Esta série é uma produção da Granada Television com realização de Michael Lindsay-Hogg e Charles Sturridge. O argumento, uma adaptação de John Mortimer de uma obra de Evelyn Waugh, conta a história de dois amigos ingleses, Sebastian Flyte (interpretado por Anthony Andrews) e Charles Ryder (interpretado por Jeremy Irons), que se conheceram na Universidade de Oxford. Ryder, que não tem amigos nem família, torna-se amigo de Andrews quando este parte um pé e precisa de companhia, enquanto recupera na casa de família, em Brideshead. Assim Ryder acaba por se envolver com a família do amigo, que é católica e pertence à pequena nobreza numa região protestante. Os dois amigos tornaram-se muito próximos e criam uma amizade muito profunda, o problema é que Sebastian é muito possessivo e tenta manter Charles afastado de sua família, com quem não tem uma relação muito boa.

The series was a period drama created by Julia Smith and Tony Holland and starred Nerys Hughes as Megan Roberts, the titular district nurse fighting to improve living conditions for the people living in a poverty stricken mining town, Pencwm, in south Wales during the late 1920s. The School scenes were filmed at Pont-y-gof school in Ebbw Vale, shortly before the old school was demolished. The children and teachers at the school were involved in the first two series. The outdoor school and street scenes were filmed at a small village near Tredegar. Most of the houses used have now been demolished, however the street still remains.
