Tsjernobyl, 1986. Na een mislukte veiligheidstest in een kerncentrale ontstaat er een explosie met rampzalige gevolgen. Alexey, een brandweerman, gaat op een gevaarlijke missie om water af te voeren uit een reservoir onder de brandende kernreactor. Hij doet dit samen met ingenieur Valery en de militaire duiker Boris. Er is geen tijd voor een goede planning en het water dat ze moeten trotseren wordt met het uur heter. Om een nog grotere ramp te voorkomen zijn de drie mannen bereid hun eigen leven op te offeren.

Een groep van zes jonge toeristen besluit om - weg van de vaste en verplichte wegen - een 'extreme tourgids' in te huren. De gids brengt hen naar de stad Pripyat, de voormalige thuisbasis van de arbeiders van de Tsjernobyl kernreactor, maar nu al 25 jaar een desolate stad. Na een korte verkenning van de verlaten stad, ondervindt de groep dat ze vastzitten op deze plaats. Al snel ontdekken ze dat ze er niet alleen zijn.

Out of defiance, he joins the violent nuclear power plant resistance, thus upsetting the tranquil chaos of the commune. The big bang, however, comes when a reactor explodes in distant Chernobyl. Exactly on the day Bobby Ewing dies, the petroleum prince from "Dallas" and series favorite of the commune.

Vlak na een van de ergste nucleaire rampen in de geschiedenis verlieten duizenden mensen van de een op de andere dag hun huizen om vervolgens nooit meer terug te keren. Een enorm gebied in Oekraïne en Wit Rusland werd ernstig radioactief besmet. Nu de mens uit dat gebied verdwenen is, heeft de natuur vrij spel en profiteert daar volop van. Veel huisdieren werden door hun eigenaren achtergelaten en kwamen hier voor uitdagingen te staan die hen voorheen vreemd waren. Zij moesten opnieuw hun wilde en natuurlijke kant ontdekken om te kunnen overleven.
