心霊学者のジェームズは、屋敷に出没する幽霊に悩まされているという女性から除霊を依頼され、幼い一人娘のキャットを連れてそこを訪れる。その屋敷では、３人の幽霊たちが嫌がらせをして人間を近づけまいとしていたのだ。だが、彼らの甥である少年幽霊キャスパーは、友達のいない寂しさからキャットに親近感を持ち、彼女の前に姿を現わす。初めは驚いたキャットだったが、心優しいキャスパーとすっかり仲良しになる。
