Hneď po príchode ho privíta skupina ďalších mladíkov, ktorých už predtým stretol rovnaký osud. Vytvorili zvláštnu komunitu, ktorá sa na tom podivnom mieste snaží prežiť a zároveň neúnavne hľadá únikovú cestu. Možnosť utiecť majú každé ráno, keď sa v stene otvára obrovská brána. Tá im však iba umožňuje vstúpiť do obrovského a neustále sa meniaceho bludiska, ktoré ich nový domov obklopuje. Najlepší a najodvážnejší bežci hľadajú cestu von a postupne mapujú jednotlivé časti labyrintu. Majú na to len čas vymedzený denným svetlom, večer sa brána uzatvára a kto sa nestihne včas vrátiť, medzi stenami labyrintu neprežije. Zostane po ňom len preškrtnutej meno vyryté na stene. Labyrint sa totiž v noci mení na desivé miesto plné najrôznejších nástrah, kvôli ktorým sa pravdepodobnosť prežitia v jeho útrobách limitne blíži k nule.
