I animasjonsfilmen HJEM søker en fredelig gruppe romvesener kalt Bøffer tilflukt på jorden fra sine dødelige fiender "Gorgene". Alle menneskene blir flyttet bort mens "Bøffene" begynner å omorganisere planeten for å gjøre plass til seg selv.. Når den klumsete Bøffen Oi klarer å avsløre deres gjemmested blir han nødt til å flykte fra sin egen rase og treffer uventet på den tøffe og eventyrlystne jenta Tipp. Sammen knytter de et usannsynlig vennskap og begir seg ut på en fartsfylt jorden-rundt-reise for å rette opp i alle feilene og redde planeten.
