Broadwayska igralka Myrtle Gordon (Rowlands) vadi svojo najnovejšo vlogo o ženski, ki si ni sposobna priznati, da se stara. Ko prisostvuje smrti svojega mladega oboževalca, jo to pahne v razmišljanje o lastnih zasebnih in poklicnih težavah.
V Cassavetsovi "Premieri" Gena Rowlands upodobi živčno broadwaysko igralko Myrtle Gordon. Pripravlja se na premiero igre, ki jo je napisala njena stara prijateljica Sarah Goode (Joan Blondell), toda vrsta pretresov v zakulisju grozi, da bo uničila ne le predstavo, temveč tudi Myrtlino duševno zdravje.
