子東發現一廉價樓出售，於是決與家宜結婚，共同供樓。誰料二人積蓄不夠付首期，家宜惟向姊家玲(李司棋飾)借貸，與子東築愛巢。
家玲早年因要照顧宜跟男友鬧翻，至今未婚，後從新加坡返港，與妹夫妻一同居住，其後，更加入子東之公司工作。未幾，家玲與子東工作和家庭均生矛盾，鬧出不少笑話。

環繞彭家的鄰居同事、朋友，還有青靜之胞姊常青春(李殿朗飾)、偉杰之好友向海(張衛健飾)、偉杰之鄰居趙敏(江欣燕飾)及同事何錦安(夏雨飾)，也性格鮮明。各人的相處、互動，交織出不少溫馨小故事。
吳家三代同堂，婆婆顧小曼（緗旖飾）與女兒陳國邦（黃愷欣飾）、女婿吳錦輝（劉江飾）及外孫女吳穎茵（潘芳芳飾）同住。國邦為人豪邁爽朗，繼承父業，打理一間跌打館，而其夫錦輝性格卻婆婆媽媽，做事拖泥帶水，平時打理家務，井井有條，二人性格各異，卻可互補不足。
女兒穎茵自小受大女人思想影響，性格獨立而專注事業，與男友李志信（張衛健飾）婚後住在吳家。志信對於這個女權至上的家庭感到不慣，不時聯同外父錦輝齊起革命，結果兩夫妻的婚姻亮起紅燈！
志信兄李志威（劉青雲飾）為人不修邊幅，吊兒郎當，任職車房，與穎茵之上司游慧中（羅慧娟飾）發展一段感情，但因二人身份階級有別，友儕間的閒言閒語，旁人的無形壓力，使二人面對無窮障礙。
