V pátek 13. října 1972 ztroskotalo v Andách letadlo, na jehož palubě byl Uruguayský národní rugbyový tým. Začal tak jeden z nejfantastičtějších příběhů boje o přežití, který vyvolal také nejvíce dohadů. Mnoho lidí zahynulo při srážce, ale někteří přežili. Ti se po několika dnech pomocí rádia dozvídají, že všechny záchranné akce byly zrušeny. Nikdo nevěří, že by někdo mohl přežít. Počasí se zhoršuje a omezené zásoby se tenčí každým dnem. Dva členové týmu se proto rozhodnou přejít Andy a vrátit se s pomocí pro zbytek. Jejich statečný kousek se jim podaří. Vrátí se zpět i s pomocí. Mezitím ale 29 lidí zemře a zbylým 16 se podaří přežít jen díky kanibalismu...
