Om morgenen den 26. december, da familien slapper af ved poolen, breder et uhyggeligt brøl sig fra jordens indre, og imens Maria lammes af frygt, rejser en mur af sort vand sig og fejer hen over hotellets grund med retning mod hende. Et kaotisk øjeblik senere ligger alt i ferieressorten oversvømmet hen, og forældrene må kæmpe en umulig kamp for at blive genforenet med hinanden og deres børn.
