Oba muži zákona mají vystopovat, zda ji bude Montgomery po útěku kontaktovat. Pod záminkou výměny telefonu se dostane Chris do Mariina domu a zamiluje se do ní až po uši.

Drama natočené podle australské divadelní verze Ibsenovy Divoké kachny, zabývající se otázkou, zda je skutečně nutné odhalit nepříjemnou pravdu za každou cenu.
Rodina dřevařů (vedená Newmanem a Fondou) je drsná a záleží jí především na každodenní práci. V okamžiku, kdy okolní dřevaři jdou do stávky, rozhodnou se naši tvrďáci pracovat dál. Stávají se tím sice stávkokazy, ale nedovedou si představit volné všední dny. Za tuto chybu platí částečně majetkem, životy (při kácení stromů) i rozpadem rodiny. Dva však zůstávají, aby pokračovali v rodinné tradici.
