Manželstvo Gail a Toma Hartmanovcov sa ocitá v ťažkej kríze. Architekt Tom totiž trávi väčšinu času v práci a nejaví záujem ani o manželku, ani o deti - syna Roarkeho a dcéru Willu. Posledným zúfalým pokusom zachrániť rozpadajúci sa vzťah má byť víkend strávený splavovaním rieky. Rodinný výlet spojený s oslavami Roarkeho narodenín sa však čochvíľa mení na nečakanú drámu. Cestou sa totiž stretnú s Wadeom a Terrym, z ktorých sa vykľujú zločinci! Celá rodina sa stáva ich rukojemníkmi na ceste za hľadaním ich komplicov. Všetkého schopní zločinci potrebujú Gail, pretože dokonale pozná rieku a splaviť nebezpečné úseky by sa im sotva podarilo bez jej skúseností. Deti sa stávajú zárukou Gailinho maximálneho nasadenia, avšak Toma a ich psa by sa zločinci najradšej zbavili. Výlet je teda nielen absolútnym fiaskom, ale čímsi oveľa horším - život rodiny je v absolútnom ohrození.
The story is set in the British province of New York during the French and Indian War, and concerns—in part—a Huron massacre (with passive French acquiescence) of between 500 to 1,500 Anglo-American troops, who had honorably surrendered at Fort William Henry, plus some women and servants; the kidnapping of two sisters, daughters of the British commander; and their rescue by the last Mohicans.
Tex rides to the rescue when badguys led by LaCrosse and Utah Joe kidnap Lettie.
Framed by Major Jenkins, Capt. Travers is kicked out of the Army. When Travers, now living with the Indians, is captured by Jenkins, the Indians attack the fort. With his men greatly outnumbered Colonel Burke realizes that Travers is their only chance.
At the end of the Civil War, a ragtag group of just-discharged Union soldiers clashes with a band of renegade Confederates over a golden treasure hidden in a deserted town in the Oklahoma Territory. Soon these rivals must make common cause in the face of an Indian attack.
