Nově zformované Hnutí za práva žen se doslova přes noc proslavilo poté, co jeho emancipované členky, které prohlašovaly, že soutěže krásy dehonestují a ponižují ženy, vtrhly na pódium a přerušily vysílání pořadu. Vítězkou se nestala favoritka ze Švédska, ale Miss Grenady, vůbec poprvé v historii soutěže žena tmavé barvy pleti.
