Nuostabiame povandeniniame pasaulyje, šiltuose ir spalvinguose tropikų vandenyse gyvena žuvų šeima – tėvas Merlin ir sūnelis žuviukas Nemo. Tėvas labai saugo sūnelį nuo gausybės vandenyne tykančių pavojų, žuviuką Nemo. Tačiau Nemo labai nori pažinti jį supantį pasaulį. Vieną dieną mažąjį žuviuką pavagia iš gimtųjų koralų namų. Nusiminęs tėvas Merlin, lydimas žuvytės Dory, kuri turi labai gerą širdį, bet labai blogą atmintį, leidžiasi į nuotykių kupiną kelionę per visą vandenyną ieškodamas savo sūnaus. Vandenyne jų laukia susidūrimai su daugybe pavojų – čia gyvena pikti rykliai, nuodus skleidžiančios medūzos, vėžliai, tačiau optimistė Dory įtikina Merlin, kad galų gale jiems pavyks surasti žuviuką Nemo.
