Japan is thrown into a panic after several ships are sunk near Odo Island. An expedition to the island led by Dr. Yemani soon discover something far more devastating than imagined in the form of a 50 meter tall monster whom the natives call Gojira. Now the monster begins a rampage that threatens to destroy not only Japan, but the rest of the world as well.

《早安》是小津安二郎少有的喜劇，仍以他一貫對日常生活中人性的細膩觀察，巧妙地與輕鬆喜趣的橋段結合，呈現樸實卻動人的人間情味及警世寓言。 東京市郊的住宅區，林啟太郎的兩個小孩終日嚷著要買電視，忍不住斥責他們多嘴，沒想到兩個小子抗議回嘴，「大人的廢話更多，什麼『早安』、『午安』都是多餘！」父親要他們閉嘴，他們果真來個無聲抗議。另一方面，幾個婆婆媽媽的家庭主婦因為銀行的存款不翼而飛，而鬧出個解不開的風波。小兄弟的無聲抗議對照街坊鄰居的八卦碎念，街角巷弄的茶壺風暴就從最平凡也最常說的「早安！」開始蔓延…… 《早安》透過幾個天真爛漫孩子的童言無忌，以孩子的童真對比成年人的利慾薰心與虛妄，一語道破成年人世界的種種猜疑與固執，是一部既大搞放屁笑話，又發人深省的作品。子女、父母、婆媳關係，從來都無完美的關係，家家有本難念的經，但始終得從家庭裡透過溝通才能解開。一句早安化千怨，小津安二郎一方面點出看似無聊的說話所能產生的巨大影響，另一方面也點出這些看似無意義的閒話，卻是現代社會不可分割的產物，儘管大家知道是多餘的東西，卻仍樂此不疲的大談分享，近半世紀前的作品，對照今日社會仍諷刺萬千。 小津安二郎曾說，「《早安》這個故事是很久以前醞釀的，描述人們平常無聊話說得熱絡，一但要談正事時，怎麼談都不投機。」美學大師蔣勳也曾表示對《早安》此片的喜愛，「清晨月台候車，人與人的寒暄，『早安啊──』、『天氣好ㄚ──』、『謝謝啊──』、『勞駕了──』完全沒有內容的對話，是日本到現代仍然保持的許多生活裡的「敬語」。像王羲之手帖裡重覆說的「頓首頓首」，沒有特別意義，但是歷經戰亂，顛沛流離，生死聚散，只能珍惜說「敬語」的一點幸福了。」

A bad day gets worse for young detective Murakami when a pickpocket steals his gun on a hot, crowded bus. Desperate to right the wrong, he goes undercover, scavenging Tokyo’s sweltering streets for the stray dog whose desperation has led him to a life of crime. With each step, cop and criminal’s lives become more intertwined and the investigation becomes an examination of Murakami’s own dark side.

《一代鮮師》乃日本知名電影導演黑澤明在1993年執導的電影，也是他生前最後一部作品。

關於日語片名「まあだだよ」的由來，乃日本小孩玩捉迷藏時捉人者詢問「躲好了沒？」，匿藏者答曰「未得唷！」。片中男主角內田百間是一位生性豁達、看破生死離別的教師，所以面對死亡，他總是調皮地對死神說「未得唷，我還不想離開這個人世間」。因此臺灣將片名翻譯成《一代鮮師》，香港則譯作《裊裊夕陽情》。此外，片中感念教師恩情的學生們所組成的「摩阿陀會」乃「まあだだよ」的諧音。
