Šerif texaského pohraničního městečka Jack Benteen s kolegou Hankem Pearsonem bojují proti pašerákům drog, které řídí Cash Bailey, Jackův bývalý přítel z mládí. Oba muže navíc spojuje láska ke stejné ženě, atraktivní mexické zpěvačce Saritě Cisneros. Třetí stranou, která má významně zasáhnout do života hlavních hrdinů, je komando americké tájné služby, které chce též zlikvidovat nepolapitelného Baileyho. Jacka rozzuří, že do jeho boje s Baileyho pašeráky zažíná zasahovat třetí strana a brzy odhalí její skryté záměry. Velitel tajného komanda major Paul Hackett nakonec vyloží karty na stůl a otevřeně požádá Jacka o spolupráci. Ten po dlouhém váhání souhlasí. Nakonec se přeci jen ukáže, že skutečnost je celkem odlišná a všechno je trochu jinak...
