Veliteľ veže Bud Brigman nie je nadšený, pretože záchranná operácia sa má realizovať pod vedením poručíka Coffeyho a s účasťou Budovej manželky Lindsey. Na hladine je hurikán. Padajúci žeriav lanom stiahne aj vrtnú vežu na okraj podmorskej priepasti. V nej svetielkujú inteligentné mimozemské bytosti žijúce na dne oceána.
