Mladičká Sophie žije s mírně šílenou matkou Donnou na řeckém ostrůvku Kalokairi, kde vedou lehce uvadající rodinný hotýlek. Ani s jednou není k vydržení, protože se Sophie bude záhy vdávat. Zatímco Donna si v téhle souvislosti dělá ryze praktické starosti, Sophie řeší jediný problém – kdo ji odvede k oltáři. Druhý příběh se odehrává přesně deset let po událostech prvního dílu, kdy zcestovalejší a moudřejší Sophie plánuje velkolepé znovuotevření rodinného hotelu na Kalokairi, na které se samozřejmě sjedou všichni „obvyklí podezřelí“, včetně trojice jejích charismatických tatínků. Oba příběhy se rafinovaně proplétají a propojují písničkami švédského hudebního zázraku jménem ABBA, ať už novými aranžemi kousků, které zazněly už v minulém díle, nebo hity, na něž se předtím nedostalo.
