Tri roky po nešťastných udalostiach v americkom provinčnom mestečku Hope sedí traumatizovaný vojnový veterán John J. Rambo vo federálnom väzení bez akýchkoľvek vyhliadok na „krajšie zajtrajšky“... Našťastie má však jeho bývalý veliteľ, plukovník Samuel Trautman, mäkké srdce – a dôležitú úlohu: Rambo má v jeho mene a na jeho zodpovednosť odletieť do Vietnamu a pokúsiť sa nájsť nezvestných amerických vojakov!
