Morris Buttermaker, ex-giocatore di baseball diventato disinfestatore, cerca di fare dei soldi facili allenando una combattiva squadra della Lega giovanile di baseball chiamata gli Orsi. Quello che trova è una banda di giocatori assolutamente negati, che trasformano il campo (da gioco) dei sogni nel ripostiglio degli incubi! Pesantemente deriso da un arrogante coach rivale, pressato dal suo nuovo capo, e sfidato dagli Orsi, Buttermaker deve salire in qualche modo sul monte di lancio e aiutare i suoi giocatori a diventare quello che non avrebbero mai nemmeno immaginato di poter essere: una squadra.
Un ex giocatore di baseball riceve l'incarico di allenare "gli Orsi", una squadretta giovanile regolarmente battuta in tutti i tornei.Per evitare nuove brutte figure, il signor Buttermaker, ex giocatore ed ora allenatore, medita di ritirare la squadra dal campionato, ma con l'innesto di due nuovi elementi ed una lezione di sportività, riuscirà a portare la squadra ad un miracoloso secondo posto!
