Été 1979, une petite ville de l’Ohio. Alors qu'ils tournent un film en super 8, un groupe d’adolescents est témoin d'une spectaculaire catastrophe ferroviaire. Ils ne tardent pas à comprendre qu'il ne s'agit pas d'un accident. Peu après, des disparitions étonnantes et des événements inexplicables se produisent en ville, et la police tente de découvrir la vérité… Une vérité qu’aucun d’entre eux n’aurait pu imaginer.

Ellison est un auteur de romans policiers inspirés de faits réels. Dans l’espoir d’écrire un nouveau livre à succès, il emménage avec sa famille dans une maison où les anciens propriétaires ont été retrouvés inexplicablement pendus. Ellison y découvre dans le grenier des bobines 8mm contenant les images de meurtres d’autres familles. Qui a filmé ces tueries et pour quelle raison ? Ellison va tenter de répondre à ces questions tandis que le tueur présumé, une entité surnaturelle présente sur les films, menace de plus en plus sa famille.

La vie de Filip va soudain basculer le jour ou il fait l'acquisition d'une caméra d'amateur. Sa nouvelle passion va lui ouvrir les portes du monde qu'il arpente avec curiosité et créativité, muni de son troisième œil. Mais comme tout véritable artiste, il va devoir payer cher ce désir de vie intense...

Dans l'Espagne puritaine franquiste au début des années 70, Alfredo Lopez, vendeur à domicile d'encyclopédies, est marié à Carmen, désireuse d'avoir un enfant. L'entreprise, dans laquelle travaille ce dernier, est au bord du gouffre financier. Pour s'en sortir, elle va trouver une solution des plus singulières et des plus surprenantes : elle propose à ses employés de réaliser des films scientifiques en super 8, pour l'élaboration d'une soit disante "encyclopédie mondiale sur la reproduction", destinée aux pays scandinaves. Le couple va accepter cette proposition.

En 1948, ‪Edith Piaf‬ offre sa première caméra à ‪Charles Aznavour‬, une Paillard Bolex qui ne le quittera plus. Jusqu’en 1982 Charles filmera des heures de pellicules qui formeront le corpus de son journal filmé. Aznavour filme sa vie et vit comme il filme. Partout où il va, sa caméra est là, avec lui. Elle enregistre tout : les moments de vie, les lieux qu’il traverse, ses amis, ses amours, ses emmerdes…

Lost Boundaries is comprised of footage shot by Julien on location, in England in the summer of 1985, during the making of the Sankofa film and video collective's first experimental feature film The Passion of Remembrance (1986), which he co-directed with Maureen Blackwood, another member of the collective. In recapturing those moment Lost Boundaries both deconstructs and foregrounds the means of 16mm film production while weaving together a fragile community of Black artists and actors who came to prominence at a time when debates in film theory - such as those of the Screen film journal and of "third cinema" discourses where cinema was intertwined within (Brechtian) filmmaking practices - were at the forefront of forging a new politics of artistic representation.
