Tapahtumat sijoittuvat vuoteen 1926, jolloin Lisko Scamander on juuri saanut päätökseen maailmanlaajuisen tutkimusmatkansa löytääkseen ja dokumentoidakseen erikoislaatuisen joukon taikaolentoja. Ennen kotiinpaluutaan Lisko tekee välipysähdyksen New Yorkissa. Lyhyeksi suunniteltu pysähdys kuitenkin pitkittyy, kun kuvioihin astuvat Jacob-niminen ei-taik (amerikkalainen nimitys jästille), kadonnut taikasalkku, sekä Liskon karanneet ihmeotukset, jotka tapaavat aiheuttaa harmia niin velhoille kuin ei-taikeille.
When a woman attempts to kill her uncaring husband, prosecutor Adam Bonner gets the case. Unfortunately for him his wife Amanda (who happens to be a lawyer too) decides to defend the woman in court.
