Hrdiny zdařilého psychologického filmu je trojice losangeleských podvodníků: atraktivní čtyřicátnice Lilly Dillonová, její syn Roy a jeho snoubenka Myra Langtreeová. Zatímco Lilly pracuje pro sázkovou kancelář na dostihovém závodišti, Roy se živí drobnými podvody.
