เรื่องราวของ จอร์จ วาเลนติน ซึ่งเป็นนักแสดงภาพยนตร์เงียบที่ประสบความสำเร็จอย่างสูง จอร์จได้มาพบกับ เป๊ปปี้ มิลเลอร์ หญิงสาวที่เป็นแฟนภาพยนตร์ของเขาในรอบสื่อมวลชนโดยบังเอิญ ซึ่งต่อมาเขาได้เลือกให้เป๊ปปี้มาเป็นนักเต้นในภาพยนตร์เรื่องใหม่ของเขา และเรื่องนี้ทำให้เป๊ปปี้โด่งดังและมีชื่อเสียงในวงการภาพยนตร์ ในขณะที่ชื่อเสียงของตัวเขาเองนั้นเริ่มร่วงโรยจากการเข้ามาของภาพยนตร์เสียง ซึ่งความรุ่งโรจน์ที่สวนทางกันนี้เองที่เป็นบททดสอบของความรักระหว่างจอร์จและเป๊ปปี้

A cheerful parking attendant considers it his job to do more than validate parking. He wants to validate the customers themselves, delivering compliments about their appearances and the inner qualities behind them. Everyone who comes up to him with a ticket walks away validated as a worthwhile human being. Soon, the parking attendant becomes so popular that people line up for validation...
