Rob si ve svých třiceti letech uvědomuje, že neví, kam ve svém životě směřuje. Po odchodu přítelkyně Laury se Rob dostává do krize a přemýšlí o tom, co vedlo k tomu, že ho všechny dívky opustily, že nedokončil vysokou školu, a že skončil jako majitel obchůdku s gramodeskami, kde zaměstnával dva podivínské hudební fandy. Rob začne přerovnávat svou soukromou sbírku gramodesek a rekapituluje jednotlivé okamžiky svého sexuálního životy spojené s různými songy a hudbou, kterou v té době poslouchal. Postupně ale dochází k závěru, že jeho neúspěch se ženami není jeho prokletím, ale jen výsledkem nedorozumění. Jeho snaha získat Lauru zpět je přeci jen korunována úspěchem a zdá se, že krize konečně ustupuje...
