Στο μέλλον, μετά τη βασιλεία του Καίσαρα, οι πίθηκοι είναι το κυρίαρχο είδος και ζουν αρμονικά μεταξύ τους ενώ οι άνθρωποι ζουν περιορισμένοι και κρυμμένοι. Καθώς ένας νέος τύραννος ηγέτης πίθηκος χτίζει την αυτοκρατορία του, ένας νεαρός πίθηκος ξεκινά ένα οδυνηρό ταξίδι που θα τον κάνει να αμφισβητήσει όλα όσα γνώριζε για το παρελθόν και να κάνει επιλογές που θα καθορίσουν το μέλλον τόσο για τους πιθήκους όσο και για τους ανθρώπους.
Σε ένα δυστοπικό μέλλον, ένας θανατηφόρος ιός έχει εξολοθρεύσει σχεδόν ολοκληρωτικά το ανθρώπινο είδος. Την ίδια στιγμή, ο ευφυής πίθηκος Σίζαρ έχει οργανώσει μια ευημερούσα κοινότητα σε μια δασώδη περιοχή λίγο έξω από το Σαν Φρανσίσκο.
