Al culmine del conflitto del 1991 tra la Georgia e la Repubblica separatista di Abcasia, una piccola enclave di estoni stanziali è quasi deserta, tranne che per Ivo (Lembit Ulfsak) e Margus (Elmo Nüganen), che hanno scelto di rimanere, malgrado gli scontri vicini. Un giorno, la guerra giunge sul loro uscio di casa, lasciandovi due miliziani feriti, appartenenti ad opposti schieramenti. Ivo decide di portarli dentro e mentre si prende cura di loro, scopre quanto siano profonde le cicatrici della guerra. Sarà possibile una pace?
Il film inizia con una breve scena in Iraq, dove il contingente georgiano delle forze della coalizione salva la vita di un giornalista americano Thomas Anders. Dopo aver perso un suo collega in Iraq, Anders decide che è ora di tornare a Los Angeles, ma ben presto tornerà in Georgia su consiglio di alcuni dei suoi amici a Tbilisi, perchè ha il fondato sospetto, che un conflitto di grandi dimensioni stia per iniziare. Thomas, insieme al suo cameraman Sebastian Ganz, approfondisce il tema della vita, che si aggrava durante il conflitto, ma finiranno per rimanere intrappolati nel fuoco incrociato, quando un raid aereo colpisce un matrimonio locale. Con l'aiuto di un soldato georgiano che li ha salvati in Iraq, la loro missione diventerà quella di documentare con una relazione la violenza a cui hanno assistito in Georgia.
