Sul finire della guerra Laila è stata una delle poche donne comandanti della Resistenza italiana. Il film racconta la storia di un percorso di emancipazione lungo tutta una vita ed iniziato con la lotta di liberazione contro il fascismo. Laila e due sue compagne, Gina “Sonia” Moncigoli e Pierina “Iva” Bonilauri, raccontano della propria esperienza nella Resistenza e di cosa essa abbia significato per loro e per molte altre donne.
