Arturo is almost 90 years old. Widowed for a long time, he is used to being alone and his days pass as a pensioner, without doing anything special: walking, sitting by the sea, pretending to listen to the radio. Then one day he gets a newspaper advertising cameras in his hands and, for a moment, the opportunity to devote himself to a hobby becomes a different color among the alleys of an empty and old country like him. Who is Peer and what’s troubling him? In an attempt to understand Peer and his perception of life Daan has followed him on and off for the past eight years. Peer cautiously reveals a glimpse of his lonely life and disturbing past.

Robert Janz’s unique artistic medium is water on brick, stone or concrete. He paints totemic words on New York City façades and sidewalks. Janz’s self-erasing word paintings challenge the serendipitous viewer to reflect on the contradictory nature of artistic practices that often capture and immortalize both a fleeting moment in time and the mortal artist that captured it. In capturing this story of the artist at work, the film evokes Janz’s philosophical musings on practicing an art form that is very much a metaphor for his own mortality. Both the filmmaker and the viewer clearly become not just observers but students of Janz and his art.
