コミック作家のクレイは、ボストンの空港から別居中の妻子へ連絡を取るが、充電切れで携帯電話が通話不能となってしまう。やむなく彼が公衆電話に切り替えようとしていると、彼の周囲で携帯電話を使用していた人々が突如狂暴になり、無差別な殺し合いを始める思わぬ事態に。その場をなんとか逃れたクレイは、やがて地下鉄の車掌のトムら、何人かと仲間になり、互いに助け合いながら、妻子の住むニューハンプシャーへと向かう。
