本劇講述一個後末日世界，地球發生一件震撼災難，滅絕了地球上一切擁有Y染色體的哺乳類動物，唯獨一名男性與其寵物仍倖存於世。這群生還者努力為世界尋回失去的東西，也把握機會令世界變得更好。
故事發生於《七龍珠》後五年的世界，悟空的哥哥拉帝茲來到地球，透露了悟空原是戰鬥民族賽亞人的身份。悟空和比克聯手對抗，然而因為雙方戰鬥力的差距而落於苦戰。悟空最終決定以同歸於盡的方式，在拉帝茲露出破綻的一瞬間從他身後架住，讓比克使出其必殺技「魔貫光殺砲」貫穿兩人身體下來擊敗對手。但拉帝茲死前透露了他的兩位更強的賽亞人同伴已透過探測器得知他已遇害，將於一年後入侵地球。
死後的悟空經由神的引薦，得以經過一百萬里長的蛇道到界王那裡修練。另一方面，其他包括比克以及悟空兒子悟飯等戰士，各自修行，以應付一年後更強的撤亞人的來襲。一年後，賽亞人達爾和立巴來襲，亞姆、餃子、天津飯和比克先後戰死。孫悟空從界王處趕回，打敗了立巴，已失去戰鬥力的立巴被達爾殺死。最後悟空、克林、悟飯協力打敗了達爾，但克林欲殺死達爾時卻被悟空所阻止。
由於賽亞人來襲，比克等人戰死，七龍珠也隨著消失，為了讓死去的戰友復活，克林、悟飯和布馬出發前往那美克星尋找七龍珠。 另一方面自稱宇宙的統治者—弗力扎也為了七龍珠前往那美克星，大戰因此而起。 弗力扎的手下不斷尋找七龍珠，而克林和悟飯受到大長老引發本身的潛力，實力大增。 並向弗力扎和其手下進行挑戰，可惜，實力懸殊，弗力扎進化成第三階，比克、克林、悟飯不敵。 在地球療傷的悟空康復後，火速趕到那美克星支援，並輕易打敗弗力扎的部下精英軍團，後來弗力扎變身，悟空與變身後力量大增的弗力扎進行激烈的戰鬥，起初悟空無論用20倍界王拳和超元氣彈都無法擊敗弗力扎(只能打到他受傷)，弗力扎後來襲擊比克和殺掉克林，盛怒的悟空變身成超級賽亞人第一階，並以壓倒性的力量擊敗弗力扎，但那美克星難逃被炸毀的命運……
