艾倫·薛弗是美國特種部隊小組長，奉命率隊前往中美洲叢林執行秘密救援任務並蒐集情報。在任務完成時，他們俘虜了一名女性，隨後啟程向集合地點前進。途中遭遇不明敵人侵襲，小組成員接連被殺，僅剩艾倫與女戰俘兩人。 艾倫在跌落泥水池後，終於發現對手是身着可隱形盔甲的外星戰士（即鐵血戰士），而且無法「看到」全身沾滿泥漿的自己。艾倫利用地形地物佈置陷阱，歷經許多艱險後，終於逃過了鐵血戰士的微型炸彈，最終被美軍救起，返回美國。

約翰·蘭保（John Rambo）是一名從越南戰場歸來的美國陸軍綠扁帽退役隊員，回國後，他想尋找以前的戰友。結果卻發現戰友因為接觸美軍噴灑的落葉劑致癌而早已去世。對於沒有親人沒有家庭的蘭保來說，戰友的去世讓他十分寂寞和消沉。當他漫無目的地在公路上徘徊時，當地的警察前來盤問。他回答說自己正打算去市區找一家餐館，但是警長將他帶到城外，他因此反抗性的走向城內。於是，維護地區治安的警察便以此把蘭保帶回了警局。

回到警局後，警察們開始對他進行侮辱式的查問。蘭保所受到的屈辱讓他回憶起在越南戰場被北越軍殘酷拷打的場面，他因此失控並打倒了數名警察，之後搶走摩托車逃入了市郊的樹林中。小鎮警察展開追捕，卻慘遭痛擊─先是一名欲射殺他的警員自直升機上失足摔死，其他人也被蘭保利用叢林之利弄傷，直到此時，他們才知道這個「逃犯」的特種部隊身分，還曾因越戰中的表現優秀而得過榮譽勳章。

蘭保的襲警成為了新聞事件，而他在越南的前上司崔普曼上校也因此前來勸說警方罷手並嘗試勸降蘭保。然而意欲報仇的鎮警長不顧勸阻，並召集了國民兵支援，將蘭保趕入一處礦坑。但就在大家以為蘭保已被炸死在礦坑內時，早已逃脫的他手持M60通用機槍單槍匹馬回到小鎮，接連炸毀了加油站與野外用品店，並把警察局局長打得重傷。然而，當崔普曼上校現身勸他投降的時候，一直沉默無語的蘭保終於喊出了越戰老兵對於社會的不滿和痛苦。

二次大戰期間，德國佔領法國，蘇珊娜(美蘭妮羅倫 飾)親眼目睹家人被納粹德軍軍官(基斯杜化華爾茲 飾)殺害，她僥倖逃脫後逃亡巴黎，偽造身分成為戲院老闆，隱姓埋名並積極醞釀復仇大計，以報滅門之仇。 與此同時，同盟國盟軍中尉(畢彼特 飾)正在結集數名猶太裔三教九流之士，組織成一支「雜種」部隊，並與實際身分為臥底特工的德國女星(戴安古嘉 飾) 聯手，密謀刺殺希特勒。

全球影迷翹首以待的重拍經典戰爭特技電影《Red Dawn》，是將1984年經典作品 《赤色黎明》以全新視覺科技以及故事重新包裝上場， Dan Bradley本身是特技人出身，更是《職業特工隊III》、《叛諜追擊》等電影的第二組導演，今次首當導演就遇上了重大難題，電影原本將當年蘇聯入侵美國的故事改成中國軍人入侵美國，但為免失去中國龐大的電影市場，結果將入侵的敵軍改成北韓人。
