In the Southeastern-most part of Germany, rises Mount Watzmann. This mighty peak is a stone guardian of a remarkable wild region that holds tight to its secret nature. There are more secrets to reveal where the mountains disappear into the depths of Lake Königssee, a lake that holds a stark resemblance to a fjord at the coasts of the Atlantic ocean. Underwater, fossil marine creatures in limestone rock tell of an ancient seabed, buried deep then heaved skywards by battling tectonic plates. Deep grooves and gouges in the rock were left by an ice age glacier, more than one kilometer thick as it chiseled its way down the valley. Though the ice age ended 12,000 years ago, the mountains still carry echoes of that frozen past. "Echoes of the Ice Age" is a portrait of the wildlife in this breathtaking scenery of the Berchtesgaden Alps.

Marlon Brando was one of the most famous American actors of the 20th century.. His roles in "Apocalypse Now" and "The Godfather" remain stand out performances. Politically, he was particularly committed to the US civil rights movement but Brando's great love was science. In 1966, he acquired the South Sea atoll of Tetiaroa to make a nature sanctuary, dedicated to scientific research.

The film takes a look back at four years of German occupation in France during the Second World War. At that time, the Nazi regime collaborated with French ultranationalists. The small Portuguese coastal town of Nazaré is unique in Europe. It became the Olympus of surfing in the 2010s. Monster waves roll ashore here between late autumn and spring. They are the largest in the world, so Nazaré is a hotspot for big wave surfers such as the German professional Sebastian Steudtner, the only German extreme athlete in this field who belongs to the world's elite. The giant waves are spectacular, but they are also extremely dangerous. They have given the former fishing port a new boom, because the activities of the surfers now attracts tourists in droves to the place even in winter. But accidents with serious injuries occur again and again. The documentary shows how the coastal town is handling the new attraction and how Sebastian Steudtner is preparing for a new record ride on the biggest wave on earth.

Helmets, swords and historical battles. Once a year, Viking fans gather in Wolin, Poland, for the largest Viking festival in the world. Hundreds of warriors re-enact the life of the Northmen here. For Dennis, the Viking life is not just a hobby, but a way of life. At the weekend he and his wife go to a self-built Viking village near Alfeld. They live here with like-minded people almost as they did a thousand years ago. The festival in Wolin is a highlight of the year for them. But right-wing extremists are increasingly mingling with participants and visitors to the costume spectacle. Swastikas and other right-wing symbols are being openly displayed more and more frequently. Runes and armor have attracted right-wing extremists since the Nazi era. One example is the Viking Museum Village in Oerlinghausen, which was built by the Nazi regime. Museum director Karl Banghard has been observing the infiltration of the Viking scene by right-wing extremists for years.
