주인공은 인기만화가 사이바라(코이즈미 쿄코). 전직 카메라맨으로, 현재는 알코올중독에 빠져 빈둥거리는 남편 카모시다(나가세 마사토시), 6살짜리 아들 분지와 4살짜리 딸 후미, 그리고 사이바라의 모친이 함께 살고 있다. 개구쟁이 아이들, 거기에 한층 더 엉망인 카모시다에게 마구 휘둘리면서도, 사이바라는 충실하게 하루 하루를 보낸다. 그러나 카모시다의 알코올중독이 심해지면서 집안은 점점 살벌하게 변하고, 결국 이혼을 결심하게 된다. 카모시다는 그때서야 겨우 진지하게 치료를 받기 시작하지만, 암이 발견된다. 남자는 일하고, 여자는 가정을 지킨다 라고 하는 전통적 일본의 가정상과는 달리 경제적으로나 정신적으로 한 가정을 지탱하는 사이바라는 엄마이면서 아빠와 같은 존재다. 그러나 겉보기와는 달리 가족의 끈은 새삼 강한 것이었다. 영화는 일본의 가족상의 변화를 반영하면서 변하는 것과 변하지 않는 것을 응시하고 있다. 니시하라 리에코의 만화 작품을 영화화했다. 독특한 가족의 일상과 깊은 애정을 묘사한 코미디 터치의 가정드라마(일본영화제,2012).
