Dall'omonimo romanzo dello scrittore Josè Maria Eca de Queiroz, arriva sugli schermi Il Crimine di Padre Amaro, film messicano candidato all'Oscar come miglior film straniero. A storia è quella di un giovane sacerdote, Amaro, che si reca in una piccola cittadina del Messico per essere istruito dal più anziano padre Benito, in vista di un viaggio di studio in Vaticano. Qui si innamora di una giovane e bellissima catechista, Anita e con lei intreccia una relazione. Sullo sfondo di questo "crimine", i ben peggiori crimini del corrotto clero messicano, ai danni dei più poveri. Il film, tuttavia, mescola la storia d'amore e la denuncia sociale, senza tuttavia approfondire a sufficienza nessuno dei due.
