Je to teda slaboch, trpiaci komplexom menejcennosti a zároveň chorobným pocitom nadradenosti. Chaplin vo filme stelesňuje aj prenasledovaného židovského holiča. Pre vonkajšiu podobnosť však dôjde k zámene týchto dvoch protagonistov...
